A genome sighed softly, pulling away that irksome hood of theirs revealing a familiar set of blond locks and pink ribbons. It had been a long time since they had visited Alexandria. It had been a long while since she had visited any city for that matter, since she always preferred to take the back road when it came to traveling.
For some odd reason, she couldn't help but feel nostalgic as she began to wander the streets of Alexandria. She wondered if her eldest brother felt as odd as she did when he hit the ten year mark. Sure, she did more - dare she say it - comfortable now than she ever had in years and she was not following her old intended purpose . . . but, the thought was still there. After all, only the two of them - and perhaps the other Genomes, she had not seen since she left - remembered life as it was on Terra.
Now, that did not mean that her life on Gaia was horrible. It was simply different. It always changed, she noted long ago. Nothing ever stayed the same. The thought felt the same as it did back then, a terrifying but equally alluring prospect.
A cool breeze tugged at her coat only to cause her to get a tighter grip on the old haggard thing. It wasn't as if she would like to get a cold, so she hurried on down to a pub for some shelter.
"Is that?"
"It has to be."
"You're kidding, that squirt?"
She could hear a few whispers about her from the patrons as she headed for a table. There wasn't many Genomes that wandered from the Black Mage Village - and of those few, there weren't many that purposely dressed differently from the crowd. Her tail must have tipped them off.
A waiter went up to her as she pulled off her coat. "What would you like?" He asked, handing her a menu. She knew the man was simply curious as to her presence, here, in this bar. Normally, she would have told him to leave her alone. But, that would be rude. Something she learned wasn't a good thing.
She hung her coat on her seat and took the menu from his hands. Still, a pair of pale eyes rested on the man. If there was one thing she learned over the years, it was that her eyes had an eerie effect on people. She knew that the guy was probably wondering if he did anything wrong, and she took her time before a calm, soft voice replied, "anything would be fine." She looked over the menu though, trying not to be entirely rude. Everything on the menu looked rather expensive to her, and it was not as if she ate a lot in the first place. She massaged her forehead before settling with the cheapest thing on the menu and handed the man back the menu.
She had to admit, she was glad to see the man gone. All she really wanted was a place to get away from the cold. Perhaps, she could have waited for an inn instead. It would have been much easier to deal with. At least then she would have a room all to herself.
If there was one thing that didn't change over the years, it was how much the idea of "making friends" appealed to her. She still preferred to keep to herself.
