If you ever had to buy a Queen a birthday present then you would know how hard it was to get the perfect gift. Because, as Zidane had found out many birthdays ago, what did a Queen not have? Queen Garnet til Alexandros XVII could get whatever she wanted. If she wanted the world she could probably obtain it. She had everything at her disposal and everything in her reach.
It was hard for a thief to find something. Anything.
But Zidane was positive he had found the PERFECT thing. He patted his pockets, knowing his gift was stuffed within them, and smiled to himself as he strolled down the cobblestone streets. Everyone was in a uproar. The citizens were clamoring together and getting ready, the streets were filled with decorations and people, and everyone was talking about the Queen. It was hard to imagine the place had been in ruins when he saw it like this. But he would rather it filled with excitement and joy than anything else.
As the thief walked through the infamous square, he noticed the longstanding flower stand. A few nobles were cluttered around it, gazing at a few flowers. The blonde wandered over as well. Maybe he should get some for Garnet? His blue eyes considered each and every petal, but another thought plagued him.
"Maybe flowers are too cheesy..." He murmured, rubbing his head.

Alita stood admiring the flowers a little further back from the other noble girls. This was by far the most enjoyable of activities she had been dragged to that day, but she still couldn't wait til the evening when she could slip away during the fireworks.
She had on a powder blue dress, made of plain cotton, and a pair of flat brown boots, which did not go but were descreetly hidden by the skirts hem. From the corner of her eye Alita saw a man approach, she would not have recognized him were it not for the tail swishing back and forth behind him.
Unlike her peers, Alita actually paid attention during her lessons, and she recognised the man from her modern history book.
Zidane seemed to be considering the flowers, an unsure look accross his face "Maybe flowers are too cheesy..." He murmured, rubbing his head.
"Flowers are timeless" She spoke up, turning to face him "So long as their from someone who means them" Alita smiled gently, perhaps she should not have said anything, but she could not do anything now. "Try the Iris', they smell lovely."

An incredible sense of amazement befell Garnet as she walked down the bustling streets of Alexandira. Everywhere she looked there were people walking back and forth peddling their wares and shouting out orders. Although this type of excitement occurred every year around her birthday, it always seemed like a new experience to her. As she walked, she tightened the white and red cloak around her shoulders, and pulled her hood down further over her head, hoping that no one would notice her presence. This was a rather rare excursion for her, and she absolutely refused to have this trip ruined because her hood came flying off.
Off in the distance she quickly spotted the swishing blond appendage that belonged to Zidane. Next to him however was another blond clad in blue. A small smile tugged at the corners of Garnet’s lips as she observed the flaxen haired female. The girl appeared to be a lot younger than herself, and brought back a few memories of herself when she first met Zidane.
The queen stopped a few feet away from the two, feigning interest in the flowers.

Zidane never got used to his sudden increase in popularity. People seemed to know him the instant he returned, almost as if he were a celebrity. He had always been popular with the ladies (or, at least, he thought), but nothing like now. People approached him with awestruck eyes, questions, or just gushed about what happed from their point of view. If anyone cared to ask Zidane he would rather forget about it--it was a big part of him, but did he have to talk about it everyday?
Not that this was what was on his mind now. He was still staring at the colorful, vibrant flowers. None of them particularly touched him. Zidane was not a flower guy--with girls he had always gone with smooth talking and (attempted to try to keep the cheesiness at a minimum).
Suddenly a girl came up to him and suggested irises. He turned and smiled, chuckling slightly.
"I guess that's what I get for talking to myself, but for good advice it's worth it," he said, looking to what he assumed must be the irises. He dipped his head toward them and inhaled, their perfume sweet scent did smell good, like the girl had said. "Wow, you're right. Irises it is!" He purchased a handful of the flowers. "Thanks. I'm Zidane, by the way."
He still didn't understand that he didn't have to introduce himself to everyone.
It was then, from the corner of his eyes, that he spotted a figure hovering by some flowers just a few feet away. She wore a hood that covered her face, though Zidane was pretty sure he knew who it was. Even through her earnest attempt at disguise he knew exactly what the girl looked like, every detail of her porcelain face, and every glimmer in her brown eyes.
He smiled to himself and her act of being oblivious. But he didn't approach her... yet.

"Alita" she replied, smiling kindly at him. It occurred to her that perhaps Zidane did not want a stranger to know him on sight as one of the Heroes associated with the queen.
Acting as though she didn't know him, which realistically she didn't outside of a textbook, she asked him "Do you live in Alexandria? Or are you just visiting for the festival?"
It was just then that she noticed he had his eye trained on something or someone behind her. She turned her head, pretending to look at the flowers again and scanned the area from the corner of her eye. There seemed to be noone of interest, perhaps it was something she could not see? A slightly worrying thought but an explanation non-the-less.

Garnet reached out a gloved hand and took hold of the beautiful cream flowers before her. She inhaled and exhaled their scent slowly, enjoying the fragrance that met her. She began to run her fingertips through the petals as she watched Zidane and the young girl from the corner of her brown eyes. A wave of excitement was beginning to swell inside her, as she realized that her walk around town was turning into a spy mission. The queen knew full well that there were more productive things she could have been doing, like signing papers and preparing for the festival, but at the moment she decided that playing this little game was a bit more fruitful.
But…just as she was beginning to make her sneaky move….
…it looked like her fun had already ended. Although her eyes were not fully focused on her, the younger of the two blonds had turned her head around, and seemed to be looking in Garnet’s general direction. Even though there was a good chance the flowers behind her was drawing the girl’s attention, Garnet could feel her face growing hot and red with embarrassment. She smiled at her from under her hood, hoping that she wouldn’t concentrate too much on her face…

Zidane nodded, trying hard to remain concentrated on the girl. But he eyes kept trailing back to Garnet whom was hovering by the flowers. He wasn't upset that she had snuck out--actually, he would have helped her. The only thing he worried about was when Rusty appeared. He'd be pissed. And make a scene...
"Huh?" Zidane snapped his attention back to Alita. "Well, kinda. I visit here a lot, so I guess you could call it my second home."
He then looked back at Garnet who seemed to frozen. And embarrassed.
"Hey Alita, you should come meet my friend. She's from Lindblum and came with me, I thought she was still asleep at the Inn! But there she is." He suppressed the growing smile on his face. "She's just a little shy," he whispered.
Then the monkey boy trotted over to the Queen, a mischievous smile on his face. Poor Garnet probably just wanted out of the castle for a minute or two to wander around they like they used to. Zidane thought being royalty was completely boring. He couldn't stand it himself, all the papers and the people blabbing about world issues... it'd make his ears bleed. He was glad he was free to go wherever he liked, whenever he wanted. Sometimes he felt sorry for Garnet.
As soon as he in front of Garnet he gestured to Alita to follow.
"Hey there Dagger," Zidane greeted using their old code name. "Aren't you up a little late? I was waiting for you all day practically!" He winked at Garnet, prompting her to play along. "You're going to miss the whole festival sleeping like that. Anyway, meet Alita!"
Zidane grinned at the two girls, with an afterthought of... this was probably the most women he had ever been surrounded by at once. Despite all his heroics Lowell was still much more popular than him. How the heck did he do that...? [/size]

Alita raised an eyebrow as Zidane walked over to a hooded figure, but followed him all the same. So thats what distracted him. she thought to herslef and smiled sweetly at the girl. "Nice to meet you." She said, sticking her hand out for her to shake, if her mother had been around, this would have been the last sunshine Alita had seen for a very long time. But she'd be damned if she was going to curtsey when she didnt need to, while she was already wearing this god forsaken dress.
"Alita, we're leaving" came a haughty, disapproving voice from behind her. She glanced over her shoulder to see the other noble girls were making their way away from the stall in a very lady-like fashion.
"You go ahead, I'll catch up with you later Bianca." Alita said with mock-cheer in her voice. The girl simply hmphed and walked away with her nose in the air, Alita didn't doubt she'd be in trouble again, but she was glad to have an excuse for escape. She shook her head "That girl is like her chocobo, stuck up with far too much gold."

Ah, once again the prince had saved the princess! Even in non life threatening situations like these, Zidane never ceased to amaze Garnet with his knack for getting her out of (and sometimes in) trouble. Quickly the queen composed herself and attempted to play along with Zidane’s ruse. “It was such a long trip from Lindblum to here. How could I not sleep in?.” She said before turning to the blonde girl. “Nice to meet you, Alita. The name is Dagger!” Ehhhh. Garnet was trying to momentarily abandon the former way in which she spoke, but a sentence like that probably sounded strange coming from her.
Garnet couldn’t help but laugh at Alita’s comment towards the girl. “haha, she seems rather nice.”And by nice, she meant stuck up and dreadful. “Did you come shopping with them for the festival Alita?”
note: haha, sorry it is both short AND late.
