So!!
I was having a sort of opinion poll on another website i'm part of and I was shocked to find that most of the individuals I talked with in regards to final fantasy were glad that 12 and 13 did away with the romance story lines!!!!! Most thought that it was unrealistic for two complete strangers to fall in love in such a short period of time.
Do you guys feel the same way?
I've always liked that sort of slow spiral towards the main characters liking one another - its why I'm such a fan of 9 because they are polar opposites at times and yet Zidane and Garnet end up together at the end. I mean I thought 12 was lacking something because they took out the sappy romance but maybe that's just me.
What do you guys think?
PS. I love the font on this board!!!!

I blame weak characters. I forgot to finish the game, like I just remembered about a month ago and, the worst part was, I didn't care! I blame the lack of love story involved. =P

It depends on the game and wether it fits or not. I personally like a love story, so long as it's intresting and makes sense. I think if you where put under as much pressure and went through as much as Zidane and Garnet did, you'd feel tied to that great adventure and long for the souls that took you on that adventure. Yet for example, VII had a love story, but it was ruined before it could truly take root. I thought that was lovely and poignent, traic in a different way. You mourn what could have been. I am all for love stories, but I don't think they are neccessity. Then again, 13 and 12 where my least favourite FFs. Too many weak characters, especially in 13, good god they where all so shallow. Lightnings personality completely flipped a tip of a hat and ugh... Perhaps a love story would have saved 13, then again, Snow and Serah's relationship was so cheesy and practically unbearable aha. Eh, yeah ~

I completely agree with you Numbers I would also like to add the fact that Vann was whiny little annoyance who didn't have an reason behind his actions.

You know, in FF I think it's totally realistic that there's a love story. For one, like Numbers said, these characters are put through a lot of pressure (in fact, such as saving the whole world!) and are together for a lengthy amount of time. (I don't know how it's too short a time... these people usually see the entire planet together... mostly on foot)
Also, the characters that do usually fall in love are the ones that help each other out the most. Zidane helped Garnet find herself when she needed the room to explore. Garnet was one of the main reasons Zidane pulled out of his depression (or, at one point, was the reason). Zidane and Garnet's relationship is completely plausible... plus, they are both great characters and if they were real who wouldn't fall in love with them? XD
I haven't played XIII, but I have played XII. And it was soooo boring. In fact, I sat through the cutscenes just WAITING for Ashe and Vaan to fall in love ( I dunno, I was seeing some kind of Zidane/Garnet thing in my head). But no. I played a good bit of the dumb game and Vaan remained clueless to females in general and Ashe was too stubborn (among other not-so-nice things) that I wouldn't want Vaan with her anyway. I think XII was lacking the big part of FF. If play FF I expect someone to fall in love!
And I also agree that the way they portrayed VII's love story was tragic, and how they continue to show it is also a nice refreshment (talking on strictly Tifa/Cloud terms). It's not completely obvious, but you just know... (I was upset to see that Aerith wasn't an issue... I don't like Tifa too much XD).

Ahh yes Vaan. *sigh* I just didn't like that game. Except for Fran; she was cool.
I had the same problem Zidane with them. I just really couldn't get myself to like Vaan and when you don't like the main character its kind of hard to fall into the game. In fact, I can barely remember all of the characters right now because most of them were so underdeveloped, minus Basch.
And what about Aerith being awesome?

I felt that Cloud and Aerith were potentially falling in love... until she died. :C In fact, other than Zidane/Garnet, they were my favorite couple, possibly because it was so darn tragic! But as the series went on it was pretty obvious Tifa and Cloud had something going on. And it made me sad. XD

Yeah and then they did all the AerithxZack spin offs. I think Advent children really changed Tifas personality. I found that in the game she was a lot more seductive and kind of like just going for the guys - didn't like it at all. But in the movie advent children she seemed really nice. I've always been for AerithxCloud personally because I think Cloud and Tifa just wouldn't work out. They're too much alike.
